Labor Day holiday was first celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. A year later it was switched to the first Monday. Peter J. Some people believe that Matthew McGuire, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Today, Labor Day is a well appreciated country wide holiday.
